RYA Day Skipper Motor

Join us in Gibraltar for your practical RYA Day Skipper and join us for an exhilarating week where we teach you the day to day responsibilities of being a Skipper. 
 

The RYA Day Skipper Motor is a 4 day training course working on pilotage, navigation, seamanship and boat handling. This will give you the skills required to skipper a small cruising yacht up to 24 meters safely by day in familiar waters.

Course Content 

The course includes preparation for sea, boat handling, navigation, pilotage, passage making, meteorology, rules of the road, engines, emergency situations, night cruising.

Pre Course experience/requirements are:

  • 2 days practical experience on a motor cruiser

  • Assumed knowledge: Theory to a level of Day Skipper.

What's included?
Start & Finish Location: Gibraltar

In short, everything is included.  Fuel, Marinas, Accommodation aboard, bedding,  light meals at sea, Breakfast, Lunch, snacks, and drinks.

Course Syllabus

Candidates will be trained and then tested to demonstrate knowledge & competence in the following;
International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea, Safety, Boat Handling, General Seamanship including maintenance, responsibilities of a Skipper, Navigation, Meteorology & Signals.

What to bring?

Sailors are exposed to the elements and must always be prepared for the unexpected. Due to limited storage on board, we always recommend you bring lightweight clothing to suit all possible weather scenarios.

Additional Course Information

If you own a fixed or handheld marine VHF radio then you will require a VHF Marine Radio Licence. A radio is an important piece of safety equipment on board and it is vital to understand the correct procedures. The Short Range Certificate is the minimum qualification required by law to operate a VHF radio with VHF Digital Selective Calling (DSC) on a British flagged vessel.
